Generic Luvox (Fluvoxamine) is an antidepressant drug that is classified as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Generic Luvox is specially made to treat obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), but can also be used to treat social anxiety disorder (social phobia). Generic Luvox aims to restore the balance of chemicals in the brain that are known to cause the obsessive-compulsive or repetitive actions.

Shallow Generic Luvox whole. Do not crew, crush or open the capsule. Contact your doctor for the precise instructions that apply to you.

Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor, as suddenly halting treatment may worsen your condition.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following side-effects associated with an allergic reaction: hives, shortness of breath, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

  • changes in appetite, changes in weight, seizure, sudden changes in mood,
  • racing thoughts, hallucinations, accelerated heart rate, fever,
  • vomiting, diarrhea, disorientation, fainting spells,
  • rigid muscle, sweating, tremors, confusion, headache,
  • trouble concentration, weakness, problems with memory, or trouble breathing.

Less serious side effects associated with this medication include:

  • anxiety, sleep paralysis, dizzy feeling, fatigue,
  • loss of appetite, weakness, upset stomach,
  • mild nausea, muscle pains, sore throat,
  • increased perspiration, decreased sex drive,
  • trouble reaching sexual climax, abnormal ejaculation.

Additional side-effects may result from taking this medication. Consult a medical profession before taking this or any other medication.

Before taking this medication, consult your doctor if you have a history of any of the following medical conditions:
Heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, blood clots, kidney disease, liver problems, seizure, epilepsy, manic depression, or an electrolyte imbalance.

Most patients are advised to have regular psychiatric testing while taking Generic Luvox to monitor any sudden changes in mood and behavior.

Do not take Generic Luvox during pregnancy unless advised otherwise by your doctor. Immediately inform your doctor if you become pregnant while taking this medication.

Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction.

Do not take Generic Luvox if you are allergic to fluvoxamine or if you are taking the following medications:
thioridazine, tizanidine, alosetron, ramelteon, or pimozide.

Do not mix Generic Luvox with MAO inhibitors such as:

  • furazolidone, selegiline, isocarboxazid, rasagiline, phenelzine, or tranylcypromine.
  • Patients must wait at least 14 days after their last treatment of MAO inhibitors before taking Generic Luvox.
  • Likewise, patients must wait 14 days before taking MAO inhibitors after treatment of Generic Luvox.


Consult a doctor if you are taking any nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to relief pain, fever, arthritis or swelling before combining it with Generic Luvox.

Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications that induce drowsiness before combining them with Generic Luvox. These medications may include: sleeping pills, cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxers, sedatives and medicine for seizures, depression, or anxiety.

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications before adding Generic Luvox to your treatment:
heart or blood pressure medications, medicine to treat psychiatric disorders, diuretics (water pill), antidepressants, migraine headache medication, sedatives, St. John's wort, methadone, lithium, tramadol, seizure medication, warfarin, and tryptophan (also called L-tryptophan).

Always inform your doctor of any medications you are taking (including vitamins and herbal supplements) before embarking on a new treatment. Additional medications not listen here may interact negatively with your medication.

Do not take more than your recommended dosage. Take missed doses as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next treatment.

Keep medication in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Dispose of any unused medication past the point of expiry. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
